Hellcat CQuartz Finest: 2015 Dodge Challenger – New Car Prep Detail
Christopher Brown of OCDCarCare.com – Los Angeles, Ca – Aug 2015
‘Hellcat CQuartz Finest,’ was the name of the email received when OCDCarCare Los Angeles was contacted. The owner knew EXACTLY what he wanted; the best new car prep and protection he could provide for his new coveted baby. He had done his research and wanted a booking date. So, after a consultation and walk around of the vehicle, the only thing that needed to be settled was the booking date. Trouble was, OCDCarCare had to travel to Dallas for a week to work on a Ferrari F40 and a ’40 Ford hot rod. Then, while working on the F40; Richard Rawlings, of Gas Monkey Garage, approached the group about a car he needed ‘detailed’. To make a long story short, the group ended up prepping a 1 of 1, 1929 Rollston Bodied Packard for judging on the lawn in the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. This was a 2-4 month detail, compressed into 2.5 weeks. Needless to say, the owner of this Dodge Challenger Hellcat was very understanding and patient while the trip to Dallas was almost a month in total.
Although the beastly Dodge Challenger Hellcat was hardly driven, 171 miles to be exact, the paint was lacking that coveted showroom quality. The clarity, color, gloss, and reflectivity would all be greatly enhanced with in depth Paint Correction and then magnified and protected by CQuartz Finest Ceramic Paint Coating.
These topical scratches were all over the vehicle, robbing her of her true beauty. This test area on the left, pictured above, revealed that the paint had enough defects that a Multi Step Paint Correction was necessary. So a compound phase, followed by a polish phase, refined the surface to glossy black mirror status.
To begin, she needed to be fully decontaminated with a foam bath, ferrous iron removal, and clay bar treatment to remove all topical bonded contaminants and anything embedded within the paint’s pores.
This initial cleanse purges every crack and crevice, allowing for all surfaces to be clean, crisp, and ready for Paint Correction then CQuartz Finest glass coating.
Next, ALL rubber and plastic pieces were adequately taped off, ensuring that no polish could possibly stain or embed in tight areas. Taking the time to tape properly before paint polishing makes all the difference in the final stages. Often, its many small details that add up and make the finished project all the better.
Admittedly, giving the above title of “Tony’s Kitty” to the project was fun since the owner glows every time he talks about her. After the taping and nickname were done, it was go time. Dodge Challenger Hellcat’s are bigger, surface area wise, than they might appear, but boy oh boy do they look great when finished.
This sun shot reveals the surface condition; deep, clear, glossy, and free of all defects while reflecting everything in sight!
Dusk is the perfect time to showcase the gloss, reflectivity, clarity, and depth of the corrected paint coupled with CQuartz Finest Ceramic Paint Coating.
Finished Stable Mates: Dodge Challenger Hellcat with CQuartz Finest & Porsche 911 GT3 with CQuartz Finest were the projects of the week! Talk about a ridiculous amount of contrast: speed and horsepower galore, yet so different on the road. It was great to have both of these contrasting beauties together.
Wouldn’t be a complete Dodge Challenger Hellcat article without the obligatory front aggressive stance picture! At so many angles she looks like shes gonna tear up the pavement. Its too bad the owner needs to wait another 2200 miles to really open her up!
While the Dodge Challenger Hellcat may be a beast under the hood, she is equally a beauty from first glance. The owner, who had been updated with pictures during the process, was quite giddy when he saw his baby. “Black Mirror,” were the words he kept using to refer to her. OCDCarCare is proud to help owners become more passionate about their vehicles while maximize their vehicles aesthetic potential and protection from the very beginning. With regular and proper care this Hellcat will look beautiful for years and years to come.
Lastly, below is a video walk around, displaying a little better representation of what this ‘Beauty & The Beast’ looked like in person.
